OtherTreasure ("we", "our", or "us") is a community platform that helps neighbours give away items they no longer need and discover free treasures nearby. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have when using our mobile application ("the App").
By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
2. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you sign in using Google, Facebook, Apple, or email/password, we receive the information provided by that identity provider, which may include:
- your name
- email address
- profile photo
- provider-specific identifiers (e.g., Facebook ID)
For Facebook Login, we request only the public_profile scope.
Item Data
When you post an item, we collect:
- item titles
- descriptions
- categories
- photos you upload
Location Data
We collect precise GPS coordinates only when:
- you pin an item on the map
- you use features that require location (e.g., viewing nearby items)
Location is accessed only while the App is in use. We do not track your location in the background.
Optional Contact Phone Number
You may choose to attach a phone number to a listing so neighbours can contact you directly. This is optional and visible only to users viewing your listing.
Crash & Usage Data
Through Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Analytics, we collect anonymous technical data such as:
- crash logs
- device type
- screen views
- feature usage patterns
This helps us improve app stability and usability.
We do not collect sensitive device identifiers (IMEI, contacts, etc.).
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Display your listings on the map and allow others to find them
- Authenticate your identity and secure your account
- Enable you to manage your listings (edit, delete, mark as taken)
- Improve app performance, fix bugs, and understand feature usage
- Communicate important service updates or policy changes
We do not use your data for:
- advertising
- profiling
- selling to third parties
- any purpose unrelated to operating OtherTreasure
4. Third-Party Services
OtherTreasure uses the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policies:
- Firebase (Google LLC) - authentication, database, file storage
- Google Maps Platform - map rendering and geocoding
- Google Sign-In - identity provider
- Facebook Login (Meta Platforms, Inc.) - identity provider
- Sign in with Apple (Apple Inc.) - identity provider
- Firebase Crashlytics - crash reporting
- Firebase Analytics - anonymous usage statistics
These services may process data on our behalf but do not have permission to use it for their own marketing or profiling.
5. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored on Google Firebase infrastructure, which uses:
- encryption in transit (TLS)
- encryption at rest
- strict access controls
- server-side security rules
Data Retention
Your personal data is retained as long as your account is active.
When you delete your account, your personal data and listings are removed from our systems within 30 days.
Listing photos are automatically deleted when a listing expires (after 48 hours) or is manually removed.
We take reasonable measures to protect your information but cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Withdraw consent (where applicable)

7. Children's Privacy
OtherTreasure is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us so we can remove it promptly.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Significant changes will be communicated via an in-app notice or by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the App after changes means you accept the updated policy.
